Loved the location. I liked the fact it’s hidden. So quiet yet in the centre of town. The staff were lovely. The decor whilst sparse is quirky which as an artist I also loved. There was coffee and tea etc with a biscuit available in the rooms. The hotel has no restaurant or bar but I like that it doesn’t because you’re not assailed with food smells and noise at all hours. Step outside the hotel and within a few steps all sorts of cuisines and drinks are available. The bed was exceptionally comfortable as were the pillows. There are lights on all night outside from surrounding buildings as one would expect in a city but the blackout curtains made it a non issue.

The Judge’s Court is rich with character. I loved diving off busy Coney Street down a narrow alley that opened in a courtyard dominated by the hotel’s frontage. All the staff, from concierge to the delightful gentleman I met polishing the staircase are an absolute delight. I adored my room, I loved being down a short flight of steps and pushing open my door into a beautiful mix of stylish new outfitting beneath a several hundred but very clean low brick vaulted ceiling. With two windows for light wells, I had a lovely flow of cool fresh air especially when York was summer muggy, a touch stinky and a little sticky. That room would also be so lovely and cosy in winter.

Incredible how quiet it was for being on one of the busiest streets in central oldtown York. The fact that the windows could be open all night and not hear a peep! Felt immense privacy too, as our windows faced a brick wall.. so sure, no "view", but, it made for privacy and quiet and you can see great things everywhere else in the city. The room was also very, very clean and the staff were SO nice. The room was beautifully designed - simple, clean, and modern feeling even though you are in a gorgeous old building. If you want to be in the center of everything, but still come home at night to peace and quiet, I highly recommend!

3 night stay for pleasure for hubby and myself. Beautiful and absolutely convenient place to stay. 5-10 minutes to everywhere in the city walls. Great rain fall shower. Yorkshire tea, Neff coffee maker and lush biscuits on tray. Fantastic staff. Complimentary Bayliss and Harding toiletries. Soft and alcoholic drinks available as room service. We had a very atmospheric room in basement. Energy saving Spot lights a little harsh but usable. Clean and well serviced if you wish. Bed hard for us but everyone is different.

After speaking briefly with the staff we found out about the history of the building which was fantastic to discover. The staff here couldn't be friendlier or more accommodating. The only suggestion I would have is that they advertise the location a bit more as it was a bit tricky finding the hotel. Other than that, the staff. The vibe. The cleanliness and quality of the rooms. The ease of access to shops and york city centre are all just amazing. I would definitely stay here again
